Congressman Gene Green Statement on Cancellation of Open Enrollment Outreach and Advertising

January 27, 2017
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Gene Green (TX-29), the Ranking Member for the Subcommittee on Health, released the following statement on reports that the Trump administration has pulled funding for outreach and advertising in the final days of the 2017 Open Enrollment season:

“The Trump Administration’s decision to cancel all ads reminding consumers to sign up for health coverage on Healthcare.gov is wrong and endangers the health and economic security of Americans. This final push of reminders and outreach has been highly successful in getting consumers to complete their enrollment, but now less seniors, working adults, and children will have health coverage.

“President Trump has stated in unambiguous terms that he wants “insurance for everybody,” yet this decision runs completely contrary to that goal. It will be hard-working, middle class people who will pay the price for his attempt to sabotage the Affordable Care Act. This is yet another example of the President putting politics over the health and pocket books of American families.”
