Rep. Gene Green Invites Students, Parents to Paying for College Workshop at Aldine Senior High School
HOUSTON – Congressman Gene Green invites Houston-area students and parents to his Paying for College Workshop on Monday, February 8th at 7:00 PM at Aldine Senior High School.
During this free seminar, a representative from The Sallie Mae Fund, Sergio Gonzalez, will present information about how to apply for scholarships and financial aid, and important factors to consider when choosing a school. Representatives from local colleges and universities will be present with information about their institutions and will be available to speak to students one-on-one. Additionally, several schools will award scholarships onsite to attending high school seniors.
“Financial barriers should never prevent our students from pursuing higher education and achieving their goals,” Green said. “Over the 14 years we have hosted this event, we have heard back from our community that the Workshop is an effective resources in equipping families with the knowledge and resources they need to make college affordable. Many students have been the beneficiaries of scholarships during the event, which is just one more resource we hope to empower them with. Even with all the resources out there, we understand there are still challenges for working families, especially those with first generation college students. That’s why we will continue to work to expand the Pell Grant program, and to make college a reality for our students here at home.”
Confirmed colleges include: University of Houston, UH-Downtown, Texas Southern University, Houston Community College, Everest Institute, Rice University, San Jacinto College, and Lone Star College.
