Rep. Green Statement on Increase of Uninsured Americans Under the Trump Administration

January 16, 2018
Press Release

HOUSTON, TX – Today, Rep. Gene Green, Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, issued the following statement in response to a Gallup survey that estimated 3.2 million Americans became uninsured under President Trump’s first year:

“During the first seven years under the Affordable Care Act, the uninsured rate dropped to a record low of 10.9% in the third and fourth quarters of 2016. Instead of building on the successes of the ACA, the Republican majority and the Trump Administration tried everything possible last year to undermine the ACA and sabotage the marketplaces, causing confusion and uncertainty for millions of Americans. By looking at the numbers for the 2018 ACA open enrollment period, approximately 8.82 million beneficiaries who enrolled in a health plan believe they deserve access to affordable healthcare. Healthcare is a right and not a privilege, and I will continue to defend the ACA and work to increase access for all Americans.”
