Congressman Green Receives Patriot Award
September 5, 2002
Washington, DC - Congressman Gene Green today received the My Boss is a Patriot award from the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). He was nominated by his district staff assistant, Lance Corporal Marcos Jess Garca-Lpez, of the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Rep. Green was one of just over fifty Members of Congress recognized for employing a member or members of the reserve component.
I am proud to receive this award just as I am proud to have the opportunity to employ such distinguished members of our nations armed services in my Congressional offices, said Green. Over the years I have had several employees with affiliations to the armed services and they have always done as wonderful a job for me as they have in serving our country.
I would like to thank Rep. Green for allowing me the opportunity to serve my country while also maintaining my employment in his office, said Lpez-Garca. More employers, especially in the private sector, need to have the flexibility so that reservists can keep their jobs while serving in the military.
Lance Corporal Marcos Jess Garca-Lpez was born and raised in Houston, TX and has worked for Rep. Green for the past four years.
