Rep. Green Comments on EPA’s inclusion of the State of Texas in the Clean Air Transport Rule

July 8, 2011
Press Release

Washington, D.C. –

“Today, Texas coal plants were told they will have to follow extra rules requiring them to make a 47 percent cut in their SO2 emissions by next year based on their 2010 actual emissions.  The EPA has assured us that these numbers are achievable and that our emissions have already been trending downward; however, I remain skeptical that that is enough to get us to those numbers.  I hope that the EPA is not wrong in their assumption because Texans are the ones that are going to suffer.  Regardless, I remain frustrated with the process.  Texas was not included in the proposed rule and so could not comment as extensively as needed to plead their case.  I hope that the EPA will work with our utilities to address these issues immediately.”
