Representing the 29th District of Texas

Rep. Green Invites Individuals and Families to a Healthcare Enrollment Forum

January 13, 2015
Press Release

(Houston, TX) – Congressman Gene Green invites residents of the 29th Congressional District of Texas to a Healthcare Enrollment Forum on Saturday, January 24th at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. During this free forum attendees will be able to ask questions, learn about different healthcare options, and enroll in an insurance plan. Healthcare professionals will also be administering free health screening including glucose and blood pressure exams.

“Our District is one of the most historically underinsured areas in the nation, and we want to help change that,” Green said. “Last year, thanks to the Affordable Care Act, nearly 20,000 of our friends and neighbors gained quality, affordable coverage through the Marketplace. Seven out of ten people who selected a plan pay less than $100 a month. We want all families to have access to the care they need at a price they can afford.”

Experts and representatives with the Gulf Coast Health Insurance Marketplace Collaborative, Navigators, and Certified Application Counselors will be available to provide individualized advice on health coverage.  For individuals and families ready to enroll, representatives will be available until 1 p.m.

Those interested in enrolling on January 24th should bring the following:

1. Social Security—Citizens must bring their social security number and permanent residents must bring their legal residency card

2. Employer and Income Information—Employer and income information are required for every household member seeking coverage, including pay stubs, W-2, or tax forms

3. Existing Policy Number—Any current health insurance policies must be presented

4. Employer Coverage Tool—Employer coverage forms must be filled out by household members who are eligible for job-based insurance but choose not to enroll in it. Forms are available on Healthcare.gov

This event is being held in partnership with State Senator Sylvia Garcia, State Representative Armando Walle, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Regional Representative Michael Coulter, the City of Houston, Univision, Gulf Coast Health Insurance Marketplace Collaborative, Texas Organizing Project, Gateway to Care, Change Happens, and Enroll America.
